Background
Prof. Benjamin Hounkpatin earned his Doctorate in Medicine in 2003 and specialized with a CES in Obstetrics-Gynecology in 2007 at the Faculty of Health Sciences in Cotonou. He added an IRCA quality auditor certification in 2011 and rose through the CAMES academic ranks, appointed Maître-assistant in 2013 and Maître de conférences agrégé by 2016, later becoming full professor.
Experience
In April 2012, he was medical lead of emergencies and referral services at the CHU-MEL in Cotonou, and he coordinated the ECOWAS regional reproductive health and HIV prevention initiative. He is a longstanding member of numerous professional bodies including the CNGOB, SAGO, FIGO, SGOBT, and GIERAF.
Achievements
Married with three children, his academic and clinical expertise led to his appointment as Minister of Health on June 5, 2018 by President Patrice Talon, a position he continues to hold across successive governments.
