Background

Dr. Kargougou is a public health physician whose career traces the full depth of Burkina Faso's health system. He earned advanced degrees in nutritional epidemiology and in managing public vaccine-prevention systems.

Experience

He built hands-on experience from serving as chief physician at a surgical medical center and leading the Solenzo Health District (where he inaugurated the district's first surgical operations in 2002) to becoming Regional Health Director for both the East and Centre-West regions. He went on to chair the boards of the regional hospital centers in Fada N'Gourma and Koudougou. After a stint at UNICEF's Ouagadougou country office, he was invited back as Secretary General of the Ministry of Health and later Technical Advisor between 2016 and 2018.

From May 2018 to April 2021, he acted as Burkina Faso's Liaison Officer to the Global Financing Facility (GFF), coordinating across government, civil society, private sector, and donors to craft a strategic investment case for maternal, child, adolescent health and nutrition.
