Background

Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto was appointed Minister of Health and Social Welfare in February 2024 under President Joseph Boakai’s administration. A medically trained obstetrician-gynecologist, she is also a prominent advocate for maternal and reproductive health issues.

Experience

Before her ministerial role, Dr. Kpoto lectured at the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons and served as a consultant at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center.

Achievements

In February 2025, she was inducted as a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS).

Education

She holds an MD, MPH in Epidemiology, MMed in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a PhD in Tropical Medicine.

Current Focus

Dr. Kpoto’s priorities include expanding community health services, strengthening human resource capacity, and embracing digital innovations such as mobile clinics and telemedicine in partnership with the UNDP and other organizations. Infrastructure improvements, especially in underserved regions, are also central to her agenda.
