Minister of Health, Gambia
Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh has served as The Gambia’s Minister of Health since March 27, 2019, when President Adama Barrow appointed him to transform the health sector into a more service-oriented and resilient system.
Before entering cabinet, Dr. Samateh built a distinguished clinical and academic career at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul. He rose to Senior Consultant General Surgeon, Head of Surgery, and ultimately Chief Medical Director. He also held a Senior Lecturer position at the University of The Gambia’s School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences.
He is a longstanding member of professional governing bodies like the Gambia Medical and Dental Council and the Joint Ethical Committee with the Medical Research Council.
He is a medical doctor with an MBBS, a Master’s in Health Planning and Management (MHPM), and a Fellowship from the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS).
